Maybe someone who knows the topic could explain how that shape effects the sound…I’m not a guitarist.
 
It is a common body shape, which is why it was one of the two styles the inflatables came in. But it’s the combination of shape, color and pattern together which leads me to believe that. Those inflatables were everywhere in the 90s.

What the Fluff?
I’m fairly certain the guitar on the right was inspired by the inflatable guitars that were popular novelties back in the 90s. The shape is similar to one of the two designs, as well as the color and pattern. The wavy zebra stripe pattern was extremely common, and light purple was one of the color choices.
 
I couldn’t find one of the original 90s ones in that combo, but this is what I’m talking about.
