How I imagine this picture’s backstory is that lyra’s current state is the result of bon bon trying to neuralize her after she saw some S.M.I.L.E related stuff she wasn’t supposed to. The problem was that bon bon had only jut been issued the device and didn’t quite know how to work it. as a result rather than erasing her last few minutes of memory she erased her mind entirely. Now bon bon just kind of keeps her around and pretends she’s not a mindless drool monkey, and for some reason no one seems to notice.

Actually, Lyra’s dream came true, finally validation of her belief in humans. She found the portal into our world, we were amazed to see such a creature, a sentient cute plushie pony as celebration we throw her a big party. Wanting to express our belief in talking pony and the validation the fandom felt, we introduced her to many of the wonderful amazing thoughtful fan art and animations even the songs of the fandom.
 
Yeah, but then she encountered the other art animation and so here we are, that’s how we got to this.
 
Also she happened to stumble upon that certain infamous plushie that seemed all too familiar for poor sweet Lyra here. Oops
