um… maybe I was just too emotionally abused, but everything he says (up to the point that his son disregarded him) sounds more like veiled compliments, or invitations to defend yourself. if he’d said something along the lines of “don’t you dare go back to those useless toys when I’m talking to you” or “you can go play with your dolls after you stop wasting your life and get a real job” then it might have been a little less creepy of an overreaction. emotional abuse is more about control than about insults.
