Well, the thing about the analogy of the cat is that some people love the show that much. There are people who are literally suicidal and keep going for how much they love it. Something about MLP makes it especially tender and uplifting, and I know a lot of people would take it very hard if the show ended.
I, myself, am not in that deep, but I still do love the show a great deal, and some part of me would be very sad with its passing.
Quality is, at least somewhat, in the eye of the beholder. I’m still not convinced that most of the “it’s too old” stuff isn’t just people getting tired of it. Again, people have, in fact, been saying that since season 2.
Starlight Glimmer was a bit of a worrying addition, since introducing new characters is always iffy on the age of a show. But every season they bring in new villains, and sometimes they get reformed, so she’s kind of a natural consequence of that. Also, I think the writers wanted Sunset Shimmer in the show, but knew that putting EQG into the series would spark a wildfire of fandom freakout, so they had Glimglam instead. But they did it pretty smoothly IMO. Aside from Sombra who didn’t even seem intelligible (and probably did actually have executions, thus blood on his hooves), Starlight’s the only plain pony villain for season premieres/finales as of yet - ie, she’s not part monster or anything, but just another pony.
And as a huge pro, I really liked some of the new writing - yeah, the writing style’s changed a little, but honestly I think in a good way. For starters, I’ve personally never been a fan of looney toon physics, and season 1 had a strong spike of that that no season since has had at the same level (just see “Fall Weather Friends” - I love the episode, but only tolerate how looney the physics got at times), and the biggest thing a lot more people will probably agree to me with is there seems to be an increase attention to detail and continuity. In “Newbie Dash” for example, we had ponies recognize that Rainbow Dash has saved Equestria - and the Wonderbolts - multiple times, and the ponies got to taste some real, actual effects of that (Spitfire says she’s “drummed flyers out” of the Wonderbolts for less, Dash gets nothing but probation, and at 0:44 there’s the explicit mention).
If anything, Season 6 seemed pretty good to me. I liked it quite a bit. Looks fine to me.
If it’s blueberry you are right to watch me closely.
Well, for myself, I’d be very suspicious of anyone with a badge that was a mystery. And if I ever was in a room with them with my last muffin, I’d watch them like a hawk!
(I might share my muffin with them, of course, but that’s a pony of a different color)
It’s not exactly that hard to find out what it means, though…
Still better than whatever cancer this movie is going to be.
inb4 retarded arguments
Too late!
@Derpy Whooves
Mystery #1 doesn’t actually mean anything to anybody, though, since as far as I know Pagan is the only one who has a unique alt text to explain it; TSP kinda outsmarted himself when he decided not to spell it out to keep people from actively trying to get it.
Not Rule #0, but there is a reason that person has a “Mystery Badge”. Ignoring them would probably be best, otherwise you’re just giving them the attention they crave.
Sooooo.. Pretty much, If you still enjoy the show, then you’re the problem. Calling people delusional for looking forward to the movie? This is seriously Rule 0 territory right now.

@Cirrus Light
I’m sorry if it came off that way I don’t want to ruin anyone’s fun or enjoyment I just don’t want a great show to run it’s self into the ground when it could do what all great shows do and stop while they are ahead. Power puff girls, gravity falls, ed edd N eddy, etc… compared to simpsons, spongebob, fairly odd parents which all became a drawn out mess once their quality started to fade but just kept going and aren’t looked at as fondly anymore, but I guess they are jerks for ending their shows when they felt they had run their course. Most good shows end after 6 seasons and MLP is already going past that. The show is still better than some other tv shows but like Ponypon said season 6 was a slog it was hard to get through where as I can go back just one season earlier and still enjoy it just fine, I mean come on it’s pretty telling when the one episode that gets the most praise from season 6 is because it “feels like an older season episode” that was what everyone said about it even me when I thought season 6 was still going to be good and was just having a slow start. Maybe season 6 was just a off year for the new writers and season 7 will be amazing but the show should still consider not going overboard with how long they think they can keep it going, one or two more seasons maybe but a reboot would be better option after that point.
I’m not saying anyone has to dislike the show on the contrary I want people to love it and if you think season 6 was great good for you, I just don’t want to see this amazing show suffer the same fate that all shows suffer from when they never end. Also your analogy about the dying cat… jesus Christ man, tone it down a little.
Frankly, the ‘health’ of the show fluctuates so much I can’t tell just what state it’s in.
I mean, I enjoyed even the moments of season five I hated but six was an absolute slog.
I agree, even with the things and potential thrown to wayside that’s there’s more juice to get from this tree, but I’m hoping it all doesn’t go down the drain.
This. Preach it, bruddah.
People have been like this since season 2, never mind season 3. Meanwhile hordes of us still like the pony.
I’m pretty sure 90% of the “it’s getting worse” thing is just people whose endorphins have worn off and the show is becoming old for them. It’s not that the actual show has changed, it’s that they have gotten tired of it.
If you look back to season 1… The biggest differences are more cartoon physics and the ponies have only saved the world once :q
I still miss Golden Oaks, though. #Savetree
@Pagan
I don’t know if it’s the origin, but I know another place where “[die] with dignity” is used.
You see, the problem is, some people say the show’s on life support and is just suffering on its way out, and others think it’s healthy and alive. We don’t have any actual doctors that can say for certain, but some people want to take it behind the shed and put it down while a lot of people think it’s still healthy.
“Mittens has been sneezing an awful lot… That cat isn’t acting the same any more. Annie, we’re gonna have to put it down.”
“BUT I LOVE MY KITTY! Look, she’s still running around and everything!”
“I’m sorry Annie, we gotta put it down. She looks like death to me.”
So yeah, kindly go never saying that crap about ending the show again. Just because you stopped enjoying something doesn’t mean you have to go and ruin it for everyone else.
It’s like we’re at a party and there’s one of those bouncy inflatable castles, and three kids get tired of it, but five are inside jumping and having a blast, so the three kids go and start deflating it because they’ve had enough fun.
It’s a real jerk thing to do.
Go take the decent route and just… Not try to ruin it for the rest of us.
I don’t want it to go Simpsons, either, but I think it’s still got plenty of life left.
d’oh
Meghan McCarthy is a girl
it’s true, my uncle is meghan mccarthy and he told me it was happening.
either that or down from the throne so Twilight can be her successor
D:
Celestia episode, Glimmie and Sunburst marry, and I’ll go away happy.
I think (and it’s just a theory mind you) that we’re closer to the end of the series than we think (look at all the story arc that are closing:the CMC got their cutie marks,Twilight a princess,Rarity is opening her shop left and right,Rainbow Dash a Wonderbolt)
I won’t argue that type of person is annoying but the majority aren’t like that but yeah if they don’t watch the show they shouldn’t criticize that which they haven’t seen.
“Fan of the fandom” tend to be unsufferable hipster ,navel-gazing about how their “artwork and fanfic ar better than the official product” and are yet another sign of the unsufferable arrogance and entitlement of audience nowadays IMO. The worse is when they petulantly brag about not watching the show and still feel in authority to criticize the show COUGH Lucky Shot COUGH.When you dont enjoy the official product,it’s a tell-tale signal that maybe this place is not for you anymore and you’ll find more enjoyment somewhere else than with us plebs.We’ll survive without the essential hindsight of people who type “I can’t ‘conveniently’ leave out what I don’t know / forget about courtesy of not having watched the finale” in a middle of a review post without blushing.Or you can go the Murisson way and keep watching the show as a bizarre sadomasochist act of weekly 22 minutes long self-imposed torture while constantly saying that you’ll “quit the fandom after this season,i swear” like some junkies from “Requiem for a Dream”
Why yes,i dont like those types of antifans ,why do you ask ?
@RunDevilRun007
0/10
Why would they leave the fandom if they don’t like the show? Plenty of artists and writers don’t watch the show either heck some people are just here for the fan made stuff and have never watched the show. If you don’t like the show don’t watch it but no one has to leave the fandom over it.
If you don’t like the show any more then it’s simple
