Maybe I should have signed in before answering, but whatever you get the idea.
In my headcanon, the guns are for the most part meant to be operated by big clumsy hooves. You’look notice enlarged triggers, trigger guards, iron sights and even other enlarged parts. In the case of the spring, unfortunately sometimes earth ponies are stuck figuring out clever workarounds. Maybe a multi tool on hand or particularly dextrous hooves from years of obsessive and rigorous practice.
