EQG Controversy Meme:

Favorite Character:
Sunset Shimmer goes from being the standard highschool bully to a full-on member of the humane six! She’s by far the best character in the EQG series!

Least Favorite Character:
Filthy Rich’s villain role makes absolutely NO SENSE, he could’ve been replaced with Glademane, Svengallop,or even HIS OWN WIFE Spoiled Rich and it would’ve been more in character.

Favorite Movie
Rainbow Rocks without a doubt! All the songs were catchy, the villains were perfect, and it completes Sunsets character arc and lets here earn her redemption! This will always be the best sequel in my opinion!

Least Favorite Movie:
Legend of Everfree felt a little… by-the-book, it was pretty obvious from the start who the big bad was gonna be, we get a “meh” kind of villain. Not to mention

Most Overrated Character:
I don’t HATE Timber Spruce, nor am opposed to him and Sci-Twi being together. But instead of being of some use to help her sort out her problems with Midnight Sparkle, he’s just there to give Twilight a break from her moping. He had absolutely no involvement in her issues with Midnight Sparkle and accomplished absolutely nothing against Gaea Everfree.

Say what you want about flash, at least he contributed something even if it was minuscule. Not to mention that there was less buildup, Flash at least flirted gently with Twilight, Timber was giving her the “I want you” look the second he saw her. And even THEN Flash and Twi didn’t (almost) kiss until the second movie, with Timber they were ready to suck face right off the bat.

Most Underrated Character:
Flash gets way too much unjustified hatred from the fandom. Seriously, the moment he was first introduced into the fandom he was met with complete hatred and scorn, why? Because he ended up being Twi’s love interest, so everyone started treating him like the cancer of the fandom that needed to die a horrible death because he’s “bland”, “cliche”, a “waifu stealer” and “has no character”.

This poor guy needs a break. Developing him as a character should not be that hard…

Favorite Villain:
The Dazzlings are just perfect in almost every way. They’re fun to watch, have great interactions with each other, and are VERY genre savvy and smart enough to eliminate a threat before executing her their plans! I fully support seeing more of these three!

Least Favorite Villain:
FUCK CINCH, JUST FUCK HER!! FUCK THAT STUPID, MANIPULATIVE, EGOTISTICAL, SELF-CENTERED, SCHEMING BI-!ahem
…I don’t like her. AT. ALL.

Favorite Song:
One of the more catchy songs from Friendship Games! It’s competitive and catchy. I absolutely love songs that have both opposing forces singing against each other.

Least Favorite Song:
Ugh, I don’t hate it… but it’s just… there.

Favorite Outfit(s):
Those motocross outfit were awesome!

Least Favorite Outfit(s):
I love Rainbow Rocks, but these outfits were kinda… meh.

Exactly! Comes all the way out there just to gloat (that “so relaxing” line was obviously a reference to the spa he’s planning to build) when she’s about to lose something she holds dear. There is NO WAY pony Filthy would’ve done something like that.

I mean, it’s kind of like being at a job interview and getting to see some of your competition. In order for you to succeed, you need all of them to fail (in order for Filthy’s plans to succeed, he needed Gloriosa to fail). The normal, decent person after landing that job would go, “Oh, I feel bad about the others not making it, but I really wanted this job too.” You’re not supposed to cheer when your competition bombs their interview, and you’re really not supposed to brag to them that you landed the job when they didn’t.

He left grumpy and scowling when the fundraiser was a success, but he still left without a fuss. He’s not maliciously scheming to take the land from her in a legal loophole, or sabotage the attempt to save the camp. He’s just gonna be mildly disappointed that he lost his chance at a lucrative opportunity then go back to his other ventures. I’m not sure how him laughing at the idea of keeping a clearly failing summer camp open for sentimentality’s sake makes him the worst.

If he was anything like how you described him in your comment (cold indifference to mild disappointment), it would’ve just been a case of bad circumstances, and there wouldn’t be a problem with him. But that is not the case. Filthy didn’t just laugh at the idea of keeping the camp open. He laughed about it in front of an already distressed person. I’ve said from the get-go that that is my main problem with him, and why I think he’s an asshole and OOC as hell. Just look at him: his whole goal was to get her land and build a spa there to make more money. All right, that’s not bad in of itself, but his entire goal was predicated upon Gloriosa losing something that she cherishes. He needed her to fail before he could realize his spa, which is why he was so happy that she failed to make the payments. Taking pleasure in someone else’s misfortune is bad enough, but then he goes on to freaking brag about it in front of her while she’s pleading with tears welling up in her eyes? Not cool at all. That is absolutely heartless, and that is why he’s an ass.

We don’t know if Filthy was or wasn’t taking advantage of a legal loophole and/or maliciously scheming to take her land because that part was never discussed in the movie. It could’ve been that Gloriosa mismanaged the camp’s funds, but it’s also possible that Filthy engaged in predatory lending. Not saying either happened. We just don’t know, so none of us can assume that he did or didn’t.

Ever thought that Gloriosa’s antics and inability to pay him just got him on edge? People do crazy things when they’re upset, like Gloriosa using magic that doesn’t belong to her. No one held it against Fluttershy when her “assertiveness” got out of hand and she outright insulted and drove Rarity and Pinkie Pie to tears, but we’re going to call someone who’s been very genereous so far a villain because he gloats about something and is a bit cruel when he’s being defied for the who-knows-how-manyth time? Filthy Rich is as realistic a businessman as any one we have in the real world.

Wall-of-text, I know.

On edge? At no point in the movie was Filthy freaking out and losing control, and he definitely wasn’t freaking out because she defaulted on the payment. He never begged, cried and/or screamed. Look at how cool and composed he was when he was in her office gloating about how he was going to tear down her camp and build a spa there. Look again at how cool and composed he was when he shows up at the gazebo later on just to taunt Gloriosa (just taking in the sights, my ass). Each time we see him, he’s got that smug smirk on his face, not a look of anguish or despair. You try to justify his cruelty by saying that Gloriosa missed her payments, and that must’ve pissed him off. He’s happy that she missed the payments because then the land becomes his! Remember how satisfied he sounds when he says, “My, oh, my. You fell behind on your payments, Gloriosa. I own the land now?” Defaulting on the payment is something he wants.

We know what he wants to do and what he’s trying to do, and he even says so in no uncertain terms: he wants to replace the camp with a much more lucrative spa there in its place. We see him being disgusted and harrumphing a few times, but we know that he wants to drive out the camp to build that spa for monetary gain, so perhaps the reason he’s actually pissed at her is because she’s being too tenacious for his liking and won’t give up the camp as easily as he thought she would.

You asked if there was anything EQG Filthy did that MLP Filthy wouldn’t have done. Of course there was. It’s why there are people who are upset about Filthy’s portrayal in LoE. They made him into a greedy asshole! Just think back to how pony Filthy reprimanded Diamond Tiara for being a bully to Apple Bloom. Now think about what EQG Filthy’s doing: he knows that the camp means a lot to Gloriosa, he knows that she’s about to lose it, he sees her pleading and that she’s about to cry, but instead of showing compassion or even robotic indifference, he gloats about it and takes unabashed pleasure in it. We know pony Filthy is decent and ethical, so kicking someone when she’s already down and crying and begging doesn’t sound like something pony Filthy would do at all. Come on. The objective that they were going for was for the audience to sympathize with Gloriosa, and they simply needed an evil greedy guy for the plot to work, not a nice generous businessman. But what we got instead was a badly written and totally OOC Filthy, so there’s no need to try to spin this and sugarcoat his actions.

Now, I’m not saying he’s bad just because he’s taking the land. That’s life, and that’s the way the world works. It became his land legally, and he could do whatever he wants with it. Bulldoze it and turn it into a strip mall, whatever, his choice. That’s business. That’s not my issue. My issue was that he was unnecessarily cruel. He wanted to take the land and build a spa? I don’t agree with it, but OK, I can accept it. But for godsakes, why rub it in her face? Her missing the payment was exactly what he wanted, so his cruelty was completely uncalled for.

And about Fluttershy, we immediately - and I mean immediately - see her feel remorse for what she’s done to Pinkie and Rarity. Later on we see Fluttershy beating herself up for it, locking herself up in her cottage and hating herself. Furthermore, we even see Pinkie and Rarity - the two most hurt by Fluttershy’s actions - coming up to her cottage to forgive her because they knew that Fluttershy was punishing herself. Fluttershy showed compunction. EQG Filthy does not. That’s the big difference.

Alot of buildings in the world have personal value for people, but that won’t save them from what’s best for the rest. The camp just wasn’t profitable,

I’m not saying that the debt should’ve been forgiven because the camp had sentimental value to Gloriosa. I was just pointing out that the camp means as much to her as the forest in which it resides. So even if Filthy would’ve left the forest relatively unmolested, Gloriosa still wouldn’t have been okay with it because something that’s basically a family heirloom was about to be demolished.

and Filthy Rich just wanted to draw more attention to the area by building something new and more desired there, unless Gloriosa got the money he wants. It was a win-win scenario for him either way.

No, it wouldn’t have been a win-win for him. Why do you think he was left angry and scowling at the end of the movie? He was pissed that she managed to come up with the payment. He didn’t want that! He wanted Gloriosa to default so that he could take the land. Just watch the office scene and listen to how happy he was that she fell behind on her payments. The reason why he was going to tear down the camp was because he wanted to install a spa there that would’ve “lined his pockets with more money than the camp ever could”. He wasn’t in it for anything altruistic. He was in it for the money. Those were his words in black and white, and the commentary points that out as well.

I don’t think he does. He’s been pretty civil the entire time, the movie just keeps putting him in a bad light because they wanted to make a sudden villain.
Tell me, did EQG Filthy Rich do anything that MLP Filthy Rich wouldn’t under the same circumstances?

I would agree, except he treated her horribly in the office. OK, so Gloriosa defaulted, and the land is his legally, and yeah, he can do whatever he wants with it. No argument there. But why did he feel the need to gloat about it in front of Gloriosa, especially when she was already so upset? He could’ve shown compunction or even indifference, but instead he chose Schadenfreude and drove her to tears. That’s my problem with EQG Filthy.

And to Gloriosa, it wasn’t just a camp. It’s been in her family for four generations. We’re not just talking about just a bunch of meaningless buildings here.

Most of these are good choices, but I disagree witheast favorite movie and outfit.
dynamicv

If human Filthy Rich is to be taken at his word, Gloriosa failed to make several payments and the land already legally belonged to him at that point.

He also made it clear he intended to use the land for his own enrichment and that leaving the camp alone would get in the way of this.

Despite all this, he still gave Glorisa one more extension after he had already “won”. There’s nothing in it for him (financially speaking) to make such a move.

What does everyone make of this?

Absolutely not. Like, he’s somewhat smug about it, but I also don’t recall seeing pony Filthy Rich foreclosing on anybody in the show before. He wasn’t even going to cut down the forest, jut replace the camp with a resort. The only thing villainous about him is Gloriosa’s perspective of him.

Your argument for Filthy Rich makes no sense. You hate how he doesn’t fit as a villain, however, as a character, you haven’t given a reason to dislike him.
Filthy Rich just acts as a typical businessman, which is what he is. And he was kind enough to give Gloriosa the time to pay her rent. The problem was that the writers of the movie tried to make a villain out of a simple man who just does his job and has done nothing wrong.
