For those wondering what’s off about the face, it’s got more to do with how it moves than how it’s drawn. The motion doesn’t follow a smooth arc, and it jitters a little bit - in particular, there’s a slight jump to the left at the top of the motion between two frames. My guess is that’s where the animation loops, and the slight mismatch wouldn’t have been apparent while onion-skinning. (Also, the eyes maintain the angle they’re looking, which not only looks unnatural, it happens to be one of those straight-on looks that gives rise to the effect where the eyes in a painting follow you). Of course, all of this is a little late as criticism on the work, I just wrote this for those who couldn’t quite put their finger on why this might look unsettling.

@Sr Pelusa If anything, I’d say they looked older. Maybe someone commented that his girls in his old art looked too young or something and it got to him. You know how tumblr is. It’s full of self righteous douchebags. I hope that’s not the case. Or maybe he’s just drawing them older now, since Equestria Girls was about five years ago, and now everyone’s five years older? But If I’m honest, I prefer the old faces, they’re just cuter.
