Gilda is an adult griffon who used to live at Canterlot Zoo. Through her experiences of being trapped in a zoo exhibit, and the ferocity of her fellow griffons, she developed a tougher and nastier stance to survive.

One day, she was selected by a principal from Canterlot High as the mascot for their sports team, since she appeared to be the only griffon who can utilize human tools and respond to humans in English (and bits of other curious languages, such as a teaspoon of Hittite and Klingon), things that seem otherwise impossible to other griffons, such as poor little Gabby.

She was permitted by zoo and government officials to be taken out of her exhibit for several times to promote the Canterlot High and the national soccer teams in sports events. In spite of protests, especially from animal rights groups, Gilda became very popular, as she was a live griffon (not a stuffed mascot) who can play the coolest rock tracks in front of throngs of cheering, screaming audiences.

Initially, she enjoyed her new treatment of being a pampered pet, from rich lavish dinners, to warm baths and (over)sleeping on soft beds, and doing aerobatic stunts on the stadium. Furthermore, the principal was interested in testing her intelligence, by making her one of the students of her school. It was problematic at first, as many of the rooms in Canterlot High are too small and narrow for her. And a lot of people within and outside the school are very uncomfortable with a large, dangerous beast as her studying alongside them – a mascot is one thing, but her as the only griffon student becomes a more dangerous matter.

So the principal decided to buy an abandoned lot near the school, where a special facility was built to keep Gilda. She no longer returns to the zoo, but was studied by several scientists in their project to see whether will this intelligent griffon be any useful for any project. She visits the school in every few weeks, usually as a sporting mascot, or as a test subject for students who learn psychological experiments on extraordinary animals, including the endangered siren population of Treshold Bay.

Over time, she grew bored of being treated like a spoiled human brat. As a griffon, she wanted adventure and action, not luxury and restraints. Furthermore, under the supervision of the principal and the scientists conducting the experiment, she cannot even fly except in sports events. She also longed to fly around and hunt, like wild griffons do on TV and in some national parks. Furthermore, while watching TV, she also learned that it was humans – the same dweebs who raised her in a zoo, and treated her like a posh pet – who reduced her kind to several little flocks in isolated valleys, or kept them to languish in zoos before neglectful staff and apathetic audiences.

Furthermore, sometimes the team members would sneak into her room and irritate her, by teasing her with food, playing very loud noises (particularly of the “girly” sort that she dislikes very much) and throwing food and other things at her. They watched her try and fail to attack them, and they laughed and filmed away, until he managed to claw some people. In one occasion, Prickly Pear could not get his fat hand out of the bars easily, and the she-griffon tore it from him with her sharpened, blood-soaked beak. Gilda laughed and jeered away as she sunk her beak and tongue into his flesh, as the panicked teammates took him out of the room. The staff members later fought her to get Prickly’s hand away from her cage, and shot her with a tranquilizer dart after sustaining severe injuries.

Against everyone’s wishes, the principal and the scientists insisted to keep her, but hired more guards and installed cameras to ensure that this particular incident never happens happen. Gilda never gave up on her bitter plan – she followed her daily grind, and waited for her chance, and it finally came on one sporting event. That was when she were to do her acrobatic stunts, but she grabbed one of her guards by the knee, and flew out of the stadium, and high into the sky. She flipped him into the air, and slashed him with her claws, as she watched him fall to his doom, and end up as carrion for her kind in some forest valley down below. She was about to think of a way on where to fly down and free her fellow griffons from the zoo, and carry out their revenge against the humans’ mistreatment, when the scientists’ organization pursued her with several specialized planes and pinned her down with many tranquilizer darts. She was later transferred into their laboratory somewhere up a mountain.

As for the principal, she was fired from her job, and sentenced to many years in prison for that very harmful, controversial incident.
