Speaking from experience, there seems to be some kind of spell on those things. Our wings are just stuck in place whenever we’re on it.
Of course. How silly of me to even ask. XD
Only Twilight and Rainbow looked good. The rest of them looked like that aborted child of G3 and DBZ…
Magic!
It’s good to be the princess.
Geeze, and here I thought Twi was more subtle than that.
Twilight’s armor is literally grabbing his buttocks.
Rainbow Power looks like a rash.
I’d argue that even Rainbow Power worked, in terms of going Super Saiyan on the magic of friendship. The Elements of Harmony have always had a strong rainbow aesthetic. That said, the more recent Cutie Mark Magic toys would have been a lot harder to fit into the show.
The thought of it being permanent never occurred to me
Yeah, some fans were actually panicking over it… I always knew they’d be temporary, given how their crystalized forms weren’t even on screen a whole minute.
People thought it was going to be permanent?
Edited
Granted, the “Rainbow Power” forms were still quite brief. (Same with their Crystalized forms)
Made it kinda hilarious in hindsight that some Season 1/2-purists/anti-Hasbro/anti-toy folk (coughKwarkcough) were fear-mongering that they were going to be their new permanent looks, and we should panic.
@President of the Ohio
Yes, make it happen, bronies!
With the exception of the Rainbow Power forms, all the toy tie-ins on the show looked presentable and fit the aesthetic of the setting. You got the sense that, for the most part, the toys came from the show instead of being shoved into the show.
This golden forklift is the opposite of that.
We need a FiM and Always Sunny crossover in season 7…with either Pinkie or Rainbow as Frank. “Who wants Rum Cake?”
Kinda seems harsh now that Spike befriended a Changeling.
Pretty much she will only count because the toy was already announced and advertised before the episode aired as I recall
I’m not even sure if Flurry counts, considering they could’ve just used Princess Skyla, a toy character instead.
kind of interesting that people say this show is too much of a toy commercial when there’s not many toy plugs in the show in fact I can only think of one in season 6
Edited
Yeah, while some tend to complain about the show being too “toy-etic,” or being too much of a “toy commercial,” at least the toy tie-ins in the show are more subtle in comparison. Even stuff like “Rainbow Power” weren’t on-screen for very long, and had an interesting sub-plot built around ’em. They even managed to make the Canterlot Wedding (considered a “jumping the shark” moment for some) work well, I felt.
@Background Pony #6C32
I think the difference is that the show always saw it as just something you had to do and got over it while I’m not convinced anyone involved with this really wanted to do it.
