ironically, that fits with how real life works. organisms that disrupt an ecosystem are often very fragile since they are short term strategists, and devote so many resources purely to reproduction. like cockroaches die off without abundant sources of food, and heated housing. most weeds get choked out by slow growing grasses, bushes and trees, just humans keep digging stuff up.

Hehe, makes me wonder about the freezing cold and fire bits. I wonder if the alien things prefer a perfectly balanced climate? No extreme variations in temperatures? I’d wonder what their home world looks like? Or have they gotten used to mostly living in space in ships? Our planet must look like a very chaotic place to them.

and then it turns into a horror story where a diplomat gets stranded on an alien death planet where the temperatures are so extreme that he becomes trapped in frozen ice, only to be thawed out by violent natives who seem to have a sadistic collective intelligence, working as one to utterly annihilate him at every opportunity. they kill not for food or territory, but only for the pleasure of murdering him. only his advanced assimilation technology keeps him alive, as he discovers that these aliens are communicating using sound waves in the air rather than flesh tendrils, and infiltrates their hive mind, trying to disrupt their coordination. instead of being confused and disoriented, or fleeing into the blizzard where he thinks they are adapted to survive, the beasts continue to attack relentlessly! despite this, he almost manages to escape, only to be burned alive in the end by the aliens’ monstrous death technology.
 
but oh gosh, what’s up with that dog? it might not be over for our hero after all!

I remember reading a thing awhile ago retelling the movie based on the Things perspective, I absolutely love the idea of a alien visiting the earth and trying to fit in using a totally different set of values than ours.  
Like why do they continue to use such inefficient organs in such a manner? Don’t they know how to restructure their bodies into more optimal configurations?  
What if they don’t know how to? I’ll try approaching one of them and see if I can help teach them how to reorganize their bodies, I’ll bet they will be so happy once they realize how much better they can be!
