Rainbow Dash is a few years younger than them. She was such a good flyer that she could compete against her older classmates instead of just her own age-group. Losing to a filly a few years your junior would be enough to make any filly jealous; having her parents cheer her on like a couple maniacs just made it worse.
Ponies can have sudden mood swings at times.

Ditto with my soccer team.
I don’t remember anyone from my amateur chess tournament days cause I was a kid. For all I know, half of them could be well on their ways to being Grandmasters.
