I’m probably reading too much into this scene, but I think it’s pretty brilliant. To be able to tell not just Dash’s story, but also Lightning Dust’s, and Derpy’s. And Spitfire! How did Spitfire become captain despite never being the best flyer? She must’ve did something amazing to get everyone’s respect.
 
But yeah, I’m sure I’m reading too much into it.

This is what a lot of people don’t seem to consider. Granted it would have helped if they had made all the others taller to better drive home the point they didn’t actually know her for very long as a foal in the more advanced circuit.

A blue-whale of a catch is “catching the impossible”, which is that the Derpiest, clutziest pone got one of the best possible “close friends”, being Dr Hooves himself. There are many jokes of the Doc with Rose, though he seems to have an adorable connection with Derpy being the only one we’ve seen him share affection with and vice versa.

I think that may have some connection with her ability to destroy town hall on accident.
