Whoa, whoa, whoa. Easy there pal, I know you’re not a hater. I said “Their loss” not “Your loss”. I was referring to your friend and those who think like him. Sorry if I didn’t make that clear.
 
And yeah. All those points you gave are exactly how I feel. Sunset was “woobie-fied” in the second movie. And Starlight’s still learning and it’s a slow process. She struggles more and has to adapt, on top of having a ton of inner conflict as well as a guilt complex. And you’re right, since it lasted a whole season it seems more subtle and people seem to miss it. But I like it better because it flowed more naturally.

Ok, first off, I have no “loss,” because I still watch/enjoy Starlight episodes, don’t act like I’m a “Starlight-hater,” because I’m not, and as I said I was trying to get my friend to watch the episode. So you’re jumping to things.
 
I actually agree, Sunset’s seemed more instantaniously, (making it seem like the rainbow power brainwashed her into being good, she became a totally different character) so she wasn’t any better really. Maybe fans seem to accept it more then Glimmer’s, because Sunset was so woobie-fied in “Rainbow Rocks,” (possibly too much) and she suffered a bit, had a bad reputation, because of what she did, So maybe some feel she had to “work/suffer more for her redemption.  
Glimmer meanwhile, seems to be still learning, seeing how she learned the hard way of controlling others, (like when she tried to control Twilight’s friends, and make Big Mac more talkative) and dealing with villains without Twilight’s help. So arguably she’s been working on her redemption too, but some fans miss it, because it happens more subtle over an entire season, while Sunset’s happened over a movie.

Honestly, Sunset had an even quicker (and even out of nowhere) heal face turn. At least Twilight talked some sense into her. Sunset was blasted with magic and BOOM! Crying like a baby. And Starlight wasn’t really willing to risk the world to spite Twilight. She was in denial and thought Twilight was tricking her. It’s not like she knew what was happening but didn’t care, that’s more like Discord in the season 4 finale.
 
But whatever it’s their (and your friend’s) loss. Leave Starlight Glimmer to those who appreciate her.

It also seems to stem from how quickly she goes from an “omnicidal maniac,” (even after she was shown the ashlands timeline, she was almost still willing to risk it to spite Twilight, some feel that made her look almost maniacally insane, and irredeemable, or worse then the other villains) to practically a mane character almost instantly. I’m still a li’l bugged by that, but honestly I’m getting used to her, and most of her episodes have actually been pretty good so far.
 
A friend of mine still hates her to the point he skips her episodes, and said he wants her gone. (He wasn’t bothered by other controversial directions in the show, like “Twilicorn,” and such, so he’s not that kinda fan usually.)  
I’m still trying to get him to watch this one. lol (It’s almost more of a Celestia & Luna episode actually, the first the show ever did.)

If (seemingly) half the fandom didn’t have an epic hateboner for Starlight stemming from her insufficient backstory and montage redemption, they would’ve adopted her as their mascot because of scenes like this.

Dude, Twilight ALWAYS acts like this. This is nothing new, and it’s not a way to make Starlight “look better in comparison”.

I find that since it was about it the princesses she was more prone to being Twilight Snapple then usual. Twi herself did say that she was biased on the issue and would have sided with Celestia

Except maybe tiny music box Twi’… That was adorable, and a clever way to use her in the ep’ without her meddling too much.

Eh, I loved Twilight this episode myself. I like it when she acts crazy as that is part of what I love about her character.

I don’t think making the old characters we’ve had some attachment to for a long time look worse than Starlight is the right way to go about this. And I like her.

they have to do those things to the former main characters to make starlight look better and saner in comparison, otherwise the fandom will never accept her

Admittedly her spell was a funny addition. Apart from that, her stalker mode here pretty much seemed unnecessary in my book. That and she wasn’t really helping Starlight whatsoever; I get why, but still.

TBH, Twilight was the sole thing I disliked about this episode. I would’ve been fine if she wasn’t in this episode past the cold open.
