He first appears here and doesn’t seem to have a name. He’s been referred to as the “Tax Pirate” most often or “the red guy.” Maybe a Tax Pirate tag is in order?

I would agree, but when they first met in the comic, the guy was only there for sex to begin with. I don’t think he actually loved her and she actually loved him emotionally… if that makes sense.

hmm, i guess i can see that, but i guess it really depends on context. if they both went into this with understanding that it was just superficial sex to scratch their itches, then dropping it when it’s no longer enjoyable seems more reasonable than going along with sex for the sake of sex that only one’s getting any real satisfaction out of. on the flip, if that wasn’t clearly established, and the guy there thought it was more or that the door for potential more-ness was being left open, then yeah, this probably isn’t the best way to go about ending it. of course i have no idea how they got into this relationship, so i guess i’m doomed to never truly know.

Like I said, I mean how she’s probably insatiable and that just breaking up with him like this is no different from using someone until they can no longer satisfy her ‘needs’, as it were.
 
Of course, I’d still lean towards the aspect of Rarity doing the right thing here, but a part of me feels like this just her not entirely considering this guy’s feelings while reflecting on her own.

On the third hand, maybe now we’ll see a new character introduced that turns out to be Rarity’s true love. On the fourth hand, she may use this opportunity to make a serious pass at Starlight’s friend.

On one hand, I’d say Rarity’s doing the right thing. Maybe she’s realized how superficial her relationship was and how it’s possibly affecting her sister.
 
On the other hand, she’s very insatiable, and it’s wrong for her to break this poor stallion’s heart like this.

It isn’t fulfilling! You can’t go deep enough! It’s not her, it’s you! She needs something longer and more lasting!
