He felt bad about it later, at least. I think he was hoping she’d eventually come around and come back. I can see how he might think “this is for her own good so she gets away from him”, then she died suddenly, so… yeah.
 
That’s being a little optimistic, though.

When this happened I legit said “Holy shit, they freaking went there.” to myself. This is the crowning example of how this show is easily one of the best animated series of the 2010’s.

This scene, this scene right here, made the sad Marblemac shipper in me flare up, because THIS IS EXACTLY WHY I WANTED THAT TO BE A THING. Because that acknowledgement that their families would have legitimately become one would have been AMAZING. At least we got that bit of conceptual motion here, even though by the nature of the in-all-but-outright-declared-dead status of their parents, we can’t really develop that any further here.

I think I cried at this moment here cause of the sheer difficulty of having to make the choice of choosing her father and her family, or the love of her life along with her new family. It was truly heart breaking to watch this scene and her face was just animated perfectly to convey this. ;w;
