Oh yeah. I know exactly why the rig looks like this.
The software being used here, Anime Studio Pro 8, is designed for bone-and-cut-out animation. Its vector tools are utter trash. I tried to make a puppet with it once, and while it looked okay, its functionality was incredibly limited and its walk cycles were fugly.
Lemon Studios Animation used a slightly newer version, Anime Studio Pro 9, which has better vector tools. Their puppets are a lot more show-accurate. The difference in how the animation has to be done is apparent, but it’s pretty impressive what they did with an outdated version of Moho.
