As far as I can guess, the monster-shaped island with the smoke coming out of it is likely a bit of decoration put there to make that corner of the map more interesting.

Do you mean the Undiscovered West aka the landmass north of Las Pegasus that didn’t exist on the first map? I’m going to make a wild guess and say that they added it to make Equestria look a bit more different than North America.
Also that desert settlement is probably the place with the windmill, where Tempest fights that fish guy.
Hmm… That airship kinda looks like the one we saw in Canterlot.
