It’s not bad writing at all, it perfectly ties into Starlight’s own struggles of her own past as a shitty cruel leader,  
just like Chrysalis clearly proves herself to be here.  
Thorax had no chance to have his own say either because Chrysalis says the voice of a ‘mewling grub’ doesn’t matter.

These companies are silencing monsters with viewpoints similar to Chrysalis’, so you have it in reverse.  
Chrysalis wants her changelings to believe they have ‘manifest destiny’ to take what they ‘need’,  
but it is all lies to give her insecure minions hope.
 
All they had to do was look within themselves for their own power instead,  
embracing love and positive energy for a more peaceful, constructive future.

What sort of peaceful resolution do you think Chrysalis tried? Do you think if she sent a message to Celestia saying “I know past Changeling leaders have been hostile, but I want to try something different so my people can feed in peace and security”, Celestia would’ve replied “Nope, don’t trust you, GTFO”?
 
As for Thorax giving (a variation of) the above speech instead of GlimGlam: Thorax could speak to Chrysalis Changeling-to-Changeling, but he didn’t have any experience as a leader and only scant experience observing leadership outside her hive. Starlight could speak to Chrysalis not only (ex-)leader-to-leader, but as someone who had led her subjects in a similar fashion, and while she obviously isn’t a Changeling, the one Changeling she knew at least embodied the different way she was asking Chrysalis to consider. While I wouldn’t fault someone for thinking it would’ve been better for Thorax to speechify, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to argue that Glimmer was the better choice from a storytelling standpoint.
 
Besides, the speech at most just prepared the other Changelings for what Thorax did moments later, so it’s not all that important…

Thank you for agreeing that this is not an appropriate place to argue for the rights of straight white guys. Stop. There is a politics thread on the site, but I don’t know that they want this discussion there, either.

It doesn’t. It relates to my earlier comment about how major companies are trying to silence anyone with a non-leftist opinion (usually straight white guys) by de-platforming them, shadow banning them, hiding their content from public access, sometimes ousting them from their career, and even taking away the various websites they have set up to discuss their viewpoints, where they are then left to deal with the rest of the leftists who riot and assault. These companies could learn something from Starlight where instead of getting people to conform through fear and power, they should instead embrace what makes them different.
 
And I would go someplace more appropriate but the politics section of the forums is gone.

I mean filtering out the kind of world view Google, Facebook, Twitter, and GoDaddy among other such major sites disagree with and are actively shadow banning and publicly banning people for. The world view that says “White straight people are not the devil, centralist and conservative views are as equally valid as any other political view in the west, and that we should be able to debate what the political left is saying about the western world and its workings without resorting to de-platforming, career ousting, rioting, and assault.”

If the “world view” you’re talking about is “people should not personally attack or threaten others” then yes, filtering out those opinions and the people incapable of engaging in civil society sounds like a great idea.
 
Or is this about us only allowing My Little Pony images on this site and deleting images that are completely unrelated to this fandom?
 
Please be clear - which particular kind of “hug box” are you objecting to? The one where people are expected to be civil to each other? Or the one where an image booru decides to only accept images and content apropos a particular franchise?

No it isn’t, it’s meant to show how far Starlight had come from being a villain, she knows how it is to rule that way and in the long run it only leads to ruination.
 
Plus we only have the comics to go by for the Changelings backstory, and even if we didn’t Chrysalis willingly invaded Canterlot with no hint or implication that she attempted a peaceful method first but had to deal with persecution or anything like that.

We dont really know that. Nothing suggest for or against how or why these changelings live the way they do. She may or may not have befn their leader since the dawn of their species existance.
 
The only way I see that lecturing scene not look so arrogant is if Thorax was the one doing the lecturing. He meets all the criteria. Born as a chageling and lived most of his life as one but discovered a different way to live because of how he thinks and his experience with pony interaction. He knows the story from both sides.
 
Of course, I understad also why Starlight was the character assigned to say those lines during that scene and it revolves around writing contrivance to paint her as “the chosen one.” Its as simple as that.

There’s a difference, Chrysalis hasn’t even tried for a peaceful solution and simply went straight for invading and taking over Equestria.

I thought that was incredibly arrogant of her to assume such things. Like Chrysalis said, she doesn’t know what its like to be a changeling, a completely different creature. The same applies to people with different upbringing or culture.
 
Imagine a straight person lecturing a gay person that their way of life is wrong because being straight is superior. I’m not gay but saying your way of life is inferior because its different triggers me.
