“No!” Starlight snarled, causing Twilight to flinch backward. “I’m not going to take part in your stupid idea of ‘destiny!’”
 
“But Starlight,” Twilight began, “you’ve accomplished so much, and I’m so proud of you.” She chanced a small smile. “You’re ready.”
 
“Not everypony wants to be a princess, Twilight. I hate politics. And you’ve seen what I fell into last time I tried leading a town!” Starlight sneered.
 
“But you’re better than that now.” Twilight’s smile grew, but remained soft. “Look at Princess Luna. She fell into darkness, but she came back.” She laid a gentle hoof on Starlight’s cheek, ignoring how the unicorn looked at it like she was about to bite it. “Just like you. This is your dest-”
 
Starlight slapped her hoof away. “Shut it! I don’t want this, Twilight! Stop acting like I don’t have a choice!!” Her eye twitched.
 
“But…” Twilight said with a frown.
 
“Don’t talk to me about this ever again, Sparkle!”
 
Starlight stormed off, turning a corner and leaving Twilight’s sight.
 
Twilight sighed.

“Starlight, for the last time, no.” Twilight Sparkle shook her head. “It’s not your destiny.”
Starlight Glimmer’s horn sparked in anger for a brief moment. “And what do you know about destiny? You can’t see the future!”
Twilight bowed her head. “No, I can’t, but I can see that you have another role to play in this world, and you won’t be able to accomplish it by being an alicorn princess.”
Starlight glared at her, pointing an accusing hoof at the princess. “If you won’t turn me into an alicorn, I will.”
Twilight’s eyes widened. “You can’t! The spell only responds to alicorn magic. It won’t work.”
Starlight Glimmer sniffed. “My magic is powerful, if not more powerful than yours, Twilight. I don’t need to be an alicorn to do the spell.”
Twilight fixed her with a hard stare. “You may have graduated from being my student.” she warned. “but you need to remember what being a true friend means. As your former teacher, as my dear friend, won’t you please just trust me?” The Princess placed her hoof on Starlight’s shoulder, giving her a small smile, then trotted into her room and closed the door.
Starlight watched her go, her anger and frustration swirling insider her. She may be my friend, and the Princess of Friendship, but nopony is perfect. She’s wrong. I’m meant to be a princess.
Starlight teleported herself to the library, and looked around wearily, making sure no one was around. She turned to Twilight’s reading chair and lifted it up, revealing a small door underneath. Starlight smiled, and used her magic to open it. Inside it, were the most dangerous spell books in Equestria. Ones that only alicorns and extremely powerful unicorns or creatures could cast. Twilight had them hidden for the safety of Equestria, but Starlight had seen her put books in here before, and knew the spell she needed would be in one of them. She rifled quietly through a dark purple book, and stopped once she found what she was looking for.
“Alicorn Transformation Spell” she read in a low voice, an excited smile creeping onto her face.
You think I can’t be a princess, Twilight? Just wait and see.
