Yesterday I went to see the MLP movie and I liked it but the critics…I tried to defend the film but they gave me a spanking like to the Mad Dog Hoek.

I’ve gotta say it’s nice to know that there are still some people who know how to be civil within this fandom.
Well said.
The problem is that we still feel the need to justify ourselves to outsiders like we did 7 years ago. And that’s piled on top of all the arguing we do with each other about the direction the show is headed, as if we can influence that.
Personally? I liked the movie, just like I like the show. And I have been here since before Faust left the show. I don’t care what other people think, I judge for myself. That’s how I got into MLP in the first place, and it’s why I’m still here. Because despite the fandom’s constant self-mutilation, I still enjoy the show. I had doubts back during seasons 3 and 4, but I’m glad I stuck around.
I’m pretty sure a lot of trendy teens/young adults simply left the fandom.
Things seem to be working out fine right now, especially compared to the past couple years that were basically the Dark Ages when contrasted with to season 1 & 2’s Golden Age.
Season 3 was a time of uncertainty; when people thought the shorter season would mean a sudden end, as well as Twicorn, and Equestria Girls. SJWs infesting the fandom also drove misery up to eleven, until they decided to move onto Steven Universe and whatever else they watch.
You occasionally see an odd freak screaming about people bleaching their blackwashed humanization, but they’re mostly just game to be trolled for sport. Things are actually pretty comfy, if not slightly unstable right now.
Though to be fair I will admit thar some of the characters and locales remind me of the Borderlands series.
No need to apologize. It makes me chuckle seeing other bronies getting so defendant that some website that no one gives two shits about gives this film a 3.5 and then gives The Emoji Movie 4.5. It just tells me that they can’t take criticism.
Granted, I use to be part of the bandwagon, but eventually I learned when criticisms are needed. It sucks and it hurts emotionally, sure, but its what makes you mentally stronger and being less emotionally reacting.
I figured that the MLP FIM hype would die down sometime near 2020 because every decade is a new cycle. Eventually we gotta let MLP FIM go. Let it rest. But nope, given with this fanbase’s negative and immaturish reaction towards how non brony critics thought of this film, they’re pretty much dragging a dying horse.
Well it just goes to show that the “Brony” fandom isn’t the pop-cultural powerhouse that it thinks it is. I’m not bashing the movie or the series for that matter. It’s just some people have a hard time adjusting to the fact that their once popular fandom isn’t all that popular anymore so they tend to lash out at other people who are fans of something different than their own fandom simply because whatever fandom that is, is the current hottest thing.
I appologize if I went off on a tangent, I’m not trying to say that the fandom itself is dead but it’s not the same fandom it once was. When you get a handful of people ranting and raving online about a movie that’s based off a toy line marketed towards litle girls getting a poor reveiw score it puts every other fan of the series in a negative light.

I agree whole heartedly. I believe it’s mostly the YouTubers that feel that way. It was a couple of years back that some people were declaring that the fandom was dying, shortly after season 3 I believe. Anyway as time went on less and less people were tuning in to watch the 4th season. Some people were speculating that it was mostly due to YouTube that veiwership had dropped and it wasn’t long before you had some of the brony YouTubers assessing damage control stating that those claims were false and that the fandom was still going strong. But at the same time some factors weren’t adding up like the decrease in numbers at conventions and some conventions just straight shutting down for good and the such.
It’s fluctuating like a MOFO on Rotten Tomatoes ,it’s started at 61 then soared to 72 before falling to 58.I dont know what to get out of that.Luckily the consensus is nicer and TBH quite fair
“Charming and sweet, My Little Pony: The Movie will please its dedicated fanbase, even if it’s unlikely to encourage non-devotees to gallop along for the ride”
“I believe that most fans of the show are worried that the fandom won’t survive much longer unless the movie does well.”
It would help if someone had some data on whether or not the fandom has grown over time, or shrank.
Not trying to sound like a doushe, but it’s like I mentioned before. I believe that most fans of the show are worried that the fandom won’t survive much longer unless the movie does well.
Because the finale had ton of continuity and references that would confuse newcomers. Starswirl had been built up since Season 2!

If I have to be honest it is comparable to the season 3 premiere. Big songs that feels like unneeded filler, underwhelming amount of use of the alicorns magic.
I wanted the movie to feel like people understand why we watch the show, but it fails to captivate that because it tries so hard to be Disney, but even then it fails to be any good.
Look I’m not siding with the critics nor am I siding with Bronys or Pegasisters for that matter. The point I’m trying to make here is this- if your going to go see a movie, decide for yourself wether it’s good or bad. Because in this case you have the critics who are simply nitpick and deconstruct the movie down to last detail and on the other side you have the Bronys who will simply give it nothing but praise, mostly due to the fear of a dwindleing fanbase and for some that’s what some YouTubers have built their channel on.
As for me? I haven’t seen the movie mostly because it’s not playing in my area, I don’t have the time and I’m broke most of the time. (I do have a job, but I also got some heavy bills to pay too hence the previous statement.)
Again, not trying to be hateful or cynical, just adding my two-cents.
Gonna see it again this weekend.
Unfortunately going out to the movies took a blow from home video rentals, then the internet and video streaming came along and paid for its last wishes.
Popcorns cheaper at home, control over the film, and less chance of others spoiling the movie for you. People are just less inclined to go to a theater when they can have it delivered into their home.
Technology waits for no medium, Personally, I’ll miss the theaters, but unti that day I’ll still pay extra for the theater experience. ^^
