Some of the merchandise called her “Muffins” too prior. Like the wig.
 
I actually kinda miss the other alternative name “Ditzy” too, especially ’cause it kinda calls back to the “Winter Wrap-Up” episode, when a pony refers to some unseen “Featherhead” as the name Ditzy-Doo. Faust said they considered calling Derpy that, because of that episode, but said she can still be “Derpy” if people want.
 
I think the reason some fans are still touchy over the alternative names is due to the old “Derpygate” incident. (One of the first major dramas in the fanbase, which lead to petitions, and such to not change her name, and such. It also lead to Derpy rarely appearing in Season 3.) I actually prefered the name “Ditzy-Doo,” but I never had anything against “Derpy Hooves.” (Though I kinda prefer “Derpy Doo” as kinda a middle ground between both names.)  
After the Derpygate incident though, “Ditzy Doo” fell out of favor with most fans, (and those that used it were chastised for “censoring Derpy”) as well as most of the alternative fanon names. Even the semi-official name “Muffins” was met with some slight drama.
 
Before all the controversy, there was also the rare fanon name “Bubbles” after her cutie-mark, (and a possible “Powerpuff Girls” nod) but not many used that one. I kinda prefer it over “Muffins.”

Only one seeing it as provocative is you… Derpy has been credited as Muffins in several episodes, biggest one being Slice Of Life where she had a huge role.
 
In my own opinion, I love calling her Ditzy, if only that it sounds uber cute and I love the FOE series depiction of her being the element of laughter :3

I could see Derpy doing this, which was pretty funny. The provocative “Derpy Muffins” joke that he shoves down your throat is the only unfunny thing here that ticks me off.

Yeah, poor Michelangelo had a problem back in the ’80s, but with help from his brothers, he kicked it, so he did that PSA TV Special with other Toons to go torwards his public service.
