Not gonna lie, this definitely explains a few things.
Image itself doesn’t include the part where I rather embarrassingly assumed it meant “orphan”, but you can see that in the link.
And hey, since he gave me a straight answer instead of a vague non-answer because NDAs, maybe they’re planning on doing something with this in season 8…
As if this place is any better?
When you do really think about it, that does make a lot of sense.
Latch-key-kids need to learn to take care of themselves because their parents are not around. For Starlight it probably meant relying her overpowered magic for everything. Whenever she had a problem she just magic-ed it away.
And absent parents also means absent limits. She could do whatever she wanted without any supervision. Maybe her unintentional abuse of magic is the reason she never had any friends other than Sunburst.
Oh well at least this is only 1 month old
There’s so many ponies that would probably have the best interactions. I wonder who else would bond, even if they’ve never met in-show.
You’re horse-memorable, that’s a good thing right? :D
Let’s say you’re horse-notable.
I’d love to see an episode where they bond over this. :D
Oh, so she’s Scootaloo then…
… and now I really wanna see an alternate future where Scootaloo becomes a villain…
Ah, I was getting it wrong. XD At least, half wrong.
Yeah, I was a latch-key kid myself. Never had a problem with it, personally, but having your child just walk home and open the house up themselves, it’s not exactly a great option for a number of reasons. Most notably, because you’re out of your child’s life for half the day, and when you come home you probably want to sleep for a bit. My mother was like this, and thus my sister and I were left to our own devices. We had a lot of fights, and a lot of violence, but now that I’m an adult I wouldn’t change any of it.
Well, perhaps my parents being there for me. That would’ve been nice.
It’s happened at least 5 times now. Does that make me horse-famous?
Yeah, it doesn’t mean they where abusive or anything just not around a whole lot. Kinda like Sweetie bell’s parents.
I think it was the opposite. I needed to do a search on this term. A “Latch-Key Kid” is described as someone who comes home from school to an empty house. Her parents were too busy or disinterested to raise her properly.
Though I’ve been cautioning myself and others not to take this too literally. I’m hoping we could get some explanation in the show proper.
I wouldn’t change it, though. Glim is cute. Glim is a good one now.
That’s because it’s the exact same tweet.
Hey now, we aren’t supposed to be explaining how Starlight’s story makes sense, only how it’s an unsalvageable train wreck.
I still think it would’ve been better if they had shown Sunburst as the last and closest of a small group of friends who left or were taken from her group when they got their cutie marks, but otherwise I think your reasoning fits perfectly.
Great post!
