Currently, the parts required are too precise for most hobbyist 3-D printers to reproduce accurately enough. But their end goal is to make this either cheap and easy enough to make for the average hobbyist to make, or at least mass-producable enough for it to be accessible to everyone. I wonder how reproducible this is - like how much work is design, prototyping and development versus how much is assembly and construction and cost of needed supplies. It’d be awesome to study their work and build your own robotic buddy.
 
Something in-between “pet” and “friend”… companion?
 
Calling something that would, in perfected form, be sapient, a “pet” just seems wrong.
