I’ve always said “think”, and “thing” sounds stupid to me, but then again, I never knew anyone else said “thing”. Maybe it’s a US Vs UK thing?

That used to be the phrase, yes, but it sounds stupid, so nobody says it that way anymore. So it’s not an error, but simply the modern way to say it.
…when you put it That way,it actually does kinda make sense,arguably more sense. In that phrases context is “another think” which is specific to the phrase and a parrarel to the first part of the phrase more sensical than “another thing” which seems random and abstract in terms of visualization?
Alas I don’t know if it counts as a grammmer error because justifed or not,the phrase “another thing coming” is preetymuch a contemporary standard version of that phrase.

I’ve not once heard that phrase with “think” in place of thing. Not in my day-to-day life, not in books, not in TV, not in movies.
