Because shattering one of the few legitimately nice Homeworld Gems, and one of the nicest Gems period, would produce a most delightful emotional punch to the gut that makes tragedy so excellent. Double points if one Topaz gets shattered! :D

I haven’t been keeping up with Steven Universe but why do you want Topaz shattered? When I saw her crying in the Lars redemption arc, I figured she might be a nice gem with a tough outside who happened to be working for more evil gems.
