No, they’re protecting deviantart’s brand recognition. That watermark is 90% DA’s logo, with just the artist’s DA account under it. It’s screaming “THIS IMAGE CAME FROM DEVIANTART AND SHOULD BE VIEWED ON DEVIANTART! AND CHECK OUT DEVIANTART FOR MORE STUFF! also poofydoofy drew this too, I guess, check out their work ON DEVIANTART!”
 
If they want to protect their art, they should use their own watermark or just add their signature to the image. I never see anyone complain about any other watermark design or signature, it’s just the obnoxious deviantart one, because it’s way more about deviantart than the artist.

Ugh. Once again people feel the need to gripe about a watermark.
 
This nice CMC picture is perfectly visible and the artist is merely protecting their art against theft.

I downvoted this because of tgat anoying watermark. Still a good drawing though.

The annoying watermark ruins the otherwise perfect picture.
