To be fair, I started driving go-karts at around 8-10 years old; Hell this was way before the Junior Dragster program was even founded I drag raced my (open - aka no roll cage) go-kart at the local drag strip.

Also, while yes speeds (depending on age class as speeds ARE regulated) can achieve 90+, you failed to realize thats 90km/h, which is just shy of 60 mph.

Lastly, starting at a younger age to learn how to drive and learning the mechanics of driving will actually make you a better driver when you are much older vs teens who never driven until they were 16-18 get into more accidents because of the ‘learning curve’ of driving.

Overall any sport, be it motorsports or athletic is dangerous no matter how much ‘safety’ is involved and in any age.

You analogy falls a bit flat, since cheer-leaders doing the more dangerous and bold stunts tend to be older. Younger cheerleaders tend to do tumbling, baton tosses, etc. The older ones do the pyramids, tosses, rolls and stuff like that.

Notice I said that an 8 year old should not be driving these things.

You can throw all the “safety” you want on it. Children should not be the sole driver in vehicles that move at 90+. 8 year olds aren’t exactly known for their coordination and split-second choice making abilities.

At that point, a catastrophic error isn’t an “if” but a “when”. And that when apparently was November 2017.

When it comes to the lives of children, the possibility of death should be an extremely low one. You’ll not convince me that this is a safe endeavor for children.
