Well the mirror is a two way portal that might have always existed but it’s not like it’s the only one. I mean we’ve seen portals opening to different areas by different types of magic before like when Tirek sent the Princesses to Tatarus and then he himself was sent there via a different magical means. There’s a good chance Star Swirl didn’t really plan on where he was sending them either, likely just “as far away from Equestria as possible” might have been the idea. Might even be possible that he sent them to a pocket dimension and they somehow escaped it but wound up in a universe that didn’t have it’s own magic yet was still linked to Equestria that they basically “took a wrong turn”.
 
It’s all speculation but at the end of the day the answer is usually “we didn’t think that far cause it’s a kid’s show”. I mean there’s continuity errors all the time in the show and especially when it comes to Equestria Girls. Hell look at the different depictions of Star Swirl throughout the series. Older depictions had him white with a white beard. Equestria Girls he’s blue with a white beard and purple eyes. Turns out he’s grey with blue eyes and a fuller heard.

Perhaps he was able to mimic the features of the mirror. Not as consitent as the mirror, but just enough effect to teleport to the corresponding dimension.

I think it’s common in children’s programming. Unless the episode directly addresses a thing, they usually leave it open so they don’t write themselves into a corner.

And this is what we call, “A PLOT HOLE”

All this time trying to figure out the lore mechanics of magic in a little girl’s cartoon and they’re not discussing whether or not Kantian aesthetics in relation to MLP.

Whenever a writer simply says “We didn’t think too hard about it” I typically find myself respecting them more.

That makes sense for me.

Seems to me the Sirens were dumped into EQG as shown because Swirly knew about that place already. The mirror portal already existed but the mirror was at Celestia’s so he made his own temporary portal. He was MIA for a thousand years so the EQG side of the mirror portal eventually became inhabited. Celestia probably modded the EQG side into the statue base so the portal wouldn’t be in the middle of the street or someone’s house. CHS certainly wasn’t around for a thousand years.

The plot hole is how/why the portal in EQG exists at all, what it has to do with the mirror in Equestria, and how any of it ties together if Starswirl just threw it up and shut it again. The previous siren comic at least made a modicum of sense in that regard, this just doesn’t.

it looks like it was somewhat of a plot hole on the creator part here. albeit starswhirl may have created a stable portal in the form of the mirror portal later on.

That makes me think that only people that had contact with Equestrian magic can use the portal, that can explain why the portal is in the school yard without any kind of protection, the mane seven are the only ones that can use it because they’re the only ones that were affected by magic
 
When sci-twi stoled Sunset’s magic she wasn’t able to use the portal because, for obvious, his magic was gone
