i dont like to be that simple tho i want them to look like they were made by a multi billion dollar studio with realistic hair and fur and everything .. i qill strive for realism as i dont like to make them simple … i hope to one day be able to make them look even more realistic to the point that if i was to make a short movie i would aim for the quality of shrek or something similar … i dont mind a slightly stylized approach but i dont think i would remove the hairs unless the one who asked for the commission wanted them to look like plastic as opposed to something like a plush or something that is alive … once i crack realistic eyes i will be able to make them look even better

@ponyguy456
Dont let them get to you, keep it up and I’ sure you will get their at some point.
Although I think people prefer the flat plastic look as seen in most 3D works and even on the show.
I think the flat colours seem to give a more refined beauty in a way + hair / fur seems to always be less details. Just look at the trending images on this site especially the 3D ones for reference.

it works well so far and i have gotten more commissions in the past few months than i did in all of 2017

each of my new works are improved with each new art or animation and the average level of quality goes up with all my new works

simple thing to say … this is the internet … not school … i am not being paid to write these so i dont need to do any punctuation save for pauses between sentences .. i can do proper structuring of these things but for the sake of time i dont … its needless to put effort to structure my comments more than to show where each sentence ends … at the same time you must realize that i did not go to school to make 3d models and am self taught… therefore you should know how to encourage with polite criticism or kind thoughts … this does look good and the guy who paid for it likes it so its fine enough … some people have the strangest fixations on the smallest flaws … the guy who paid me to make this asked for a maw shot similar to this image (link will be provided at the bottom) and i made it as similar as i could … i cant draw for the life of me so the only way i can make art is to 3d model it and thats difficult in its own way … you would not like me to point out the smallest flaws in your work would you and make people fixate on the small flaws over the initial image … i expect you would be hurt by people rudely poking at something you spent hours making … i am limited by my finances and cannot afford a proper character modeling course so i have to make due with you tube tutorials and what i already know… again i am still learning and i dont mind criticism to a point but when several comments have been replied to about the same thing i would hope that people would read the comments and know that i am aware of the flaws and will fix them in future works … these things are tedious to make and i do my best with what i know at the time of creation

YOU made this, therefore you have a bias about its quality. Whether it’s “good” or not is subjective.

Her mouth is open, that’s clearly the focal point. So the most offputting part I see when I look at the whole image is the extremely flat perfectly rounded bottom front teeth.

Second to that is the noisy plastic hair, furry not-feathery wings, and the way the eyelashes clip through her fur.

Also learn sentence & paragraph structure, don’t just separate everything with ellipses. Commas and periods exist for a reason.

well when it comes to quality this does look good .. the only thing i cheeped out on (and i said this many times) is the eyes … people need to not focus on the small flaws (of which there are few) and look at the image as a whole .. its like finding an attractive woman and seeing she has a mole on her neck and only focusing on that instead of the person in front of you … these take time to make and i strive for quality … i dont do SFM because its quality for commissions is low simply due to the fact it does not use physical materials and instead makes most things look like plastic … where as with blender i can make a creature that can look real or i can make a 3d model of a pony and with a touch of tweaks make it look like a plushie or a real creature … yes i know i messed up on the eyes but dont let that small flaw distract you from the rest of the image

So long as you know that effort and quality do not go hand-in-hand.
You can spend a lot of time and effort on something you think looks good, when it really doesn’t (just see any google image result for “excessive makeup”, they thought their efforts looked appealing).

Do you think people want a real MLP Horse?
I think the whole point of why MLP is so popular is that it allows for escapism.
And hell please don’t take what I said to personally, after all I know how it feels to be an artist and having ones work slandered. Which I’m not trying to do, just trying to give my personal view on the matter and I’m sorry if it has caused you any grief.
But on a side not you get the insides right ever time.
Ponlets

@Onceponycard
actually it does … its like being a woman and saying looks dont matter … when its the face thats the first thing people see and a pretty face can go more places with less effort than a average face or below average face … i strive for quality as that is the best route to take and eventually (even though its quite photo realistic already) i will be able to make them look like i took a picture of real live MLP horses instead of slowly edging my way around the uncanny valley
Ponlets

@Onceponycard
thats not what i would do because i strive for quality and the fur is not a texture it is real fur … luna has over 2.6 million hairs on her body … i hate the quality of SFM because its a simplistic renderer that does not use physics based materials … lunas eyes were the only short cut i took
Ponlets

@emu34b
for something like that i would need one to commission me as these take several hours to complete … this image for example cost 40$ and was done in 4k in 6 hours plus 2 hours for render times
