Vault-Tec Assisted Targeted System. It is a thing that slows down or pauses time and lets you select the specific part of the body on an enemy you want to shoot. It also gives you a list of the percentage chance of hitting that part. It is handy and a way of allowing someone not so good at the shooter part of the games to get in a good damaging shot. In Fallout 4 it is also the only way to get a critical hit.
@Meanlucario
Oh I did. Played through it several times but it did get my character killed a few times. Not the worst bug in a Bethesda game I’ve ran across. I’d say that belongs to the overwhelmingly buggy Skyrim quest ‘The White Phial’.

It seems that 76 will have VATs be quite useful. And sorry to hear about NV making VATs a problem to use. I hope you still had fun with it.
Honestly Fallout 3 was the only one I used VATS in much. I rather enjoyed the iron sights aiming in the later games too much to pull up VATS often. I really avoiding using it in New Vegas as I kept running into a bug with VATS where I would shoot a bunch, miss every shot, and then be stuck in that position while an enemy would hit me several times before I would get unstuck.
I too did not know about vats when I played fallout NV, but then again I only every ran up to things and beat the ever living sheit out of them with my fist. Or I used a mini-gun. But mainly I was making Mr. Torgue proud by
I’ve seen (a bit of) an LP of one of the Fallout games where they never used VATS, and the tutorial tip for how to activate VATS just stayed on the entire game - even through the credits.

It’s a Fallout thing.
That’s good to hear. I’m not a fan of NV personally, though I won’t deny that it’s still a good game.

Not just Moxxi, all women as
“THERE IS NOTHING MORE AWESOME THEN TREATING WOMEN WITH RESPECT!”
It doesn’t count if you’re not also being nice to Moxxi.

A mechanic in the Fallout games that stops/slows down the game and lets the computer aims for you.
I mean, I miss, but that’s what happens when you have an 80% chance to hit.
Born under a lucky star?
Above average agility?
@The Toaster Repair Pony
Am I the only one who has good luck with V.A.T.S in 3, 4 and NV?
Essential
V.A.T.S on Fallout 4
Misses 95% of shots before consuming entire charge, then being batted across the wasteland by a fire hydrant wielding behemoth
I never hit VATS unless I panic. Even then it doesn’t do crap
