I think of Harmony as the God of Equestria. From there, it’s pretty straightforward. Admittedly, Celestia’s probably a better ‘Moses.’ Or Abraham/Moses. The girls are sort of like a cross between Moses/Old Testament prophets. The place where it falls apart is that, while they’re representatives, they don’t receive any recognizable divine revelation going for them.
 
But that’s just headcanon that makes sense to me.

@Yorec: Because, like in Exodus and Leviticus, the God’s presence in question would only come down at a certain point to speak to certain people.
 
Doesn’t fit the burning bush as much as the Tabernacle though.
 
Then again, this series has taken more inspiration from Greek mythology anyway, which also makes sense if you think of Celestia’s palace as akin to a temple where a god might speak to worshippers, etc.

I don’t see the Princesses as gods, just remnants of a dead/dying race.
 
So, Twilight could think them as mortals who are just here, rather than creators.

AND SHE IS TERRIFIED GOD WILL TAKE HER AWAY FROM HER FRIENDS FOR DELINQUENCY.
