It’s a similar territory as the Teen Titans Go fans vs Twen Titans Go critiques forums and discussions. It’s messy, but it’s going to happen.
 
I believe we already agreed it’s annoying, so at the very least we don’t need to disagree on that.
 
But we will have to agree to disagree on the other part. Not everyone is sick of it. So long as Starlight’s writing breeds a lot of ire instead of mostly contentment, critiques will bash her character out of the desire for good quality writing, and defensive Starlight fans will exist for those who do like her.
 
So yes, let’s agree to disagree.

I know that the aggressive people won’t shut about it, doesn’t make it any less true that people are sick of it :/
 
And I don’t think that OP was trying to give the message that “Glimmer vs Shimmer arguments would automatically stop”, it’s just a GIF he made to show that constantly arguing about them is stupid and everyone is tired of it.
 
But I don’t want to continue this since I feel like the comments are just going to be us arguing and not changing either of our opinions on it, so let’s just agree to disagree?

People were sick of it from the getgo. Just because people are sick of it doesn’t mean it will not happen. You think people with very aggressive opinions on both sides give a damn whether your sick of it or even if a lot of people are sick of it?
 
That’s a rather naive line of thinking.

No, I think the GIF is already accurate, since I think a lot of people have gotten tired of the Sunset vs Starlight argument, and don’t want to hear more of it.
 
It has nothing to do with what thier short comings or successes are or how easy they are to compare, most people like OP are just sick of the constant arguments between them.  
It’s not to reflect about why they are being compared, it’s to reflect how most people are feeling about the arguments, and they are feeling sick of hearing them.

It IS stupid, but it is ALSO completely natural why talking about Starlight would lead to comparisons with Sunset, as I just explained.
 
(_sigh) Stupidity begets more stupidity. Bad writing begets bad/stupid discussions. Just because you and I both think this discourse is futile and stupid…doesn’t mean it has any logical reason to end. It is STILL a recipe for disaster, Starlight’s failings as a character mirror Sunset’s successes; regardless of whether you personally disagree, it’s why the fandom brings the discourse up so often.
 
In the context of this gif, that book ain’t staying in the water. The accuracy of this gif would be enhanced if an animal in the water labeled “Shim/Glim Comparisons” grabbed the book and threw it back into her face in comedic, non-cruel fashion.

It’s not necessary for people to compare Glimmer and Shimmer, the problem is its too easy to do so.
 
Sunset was created first, Starlight was created after. Both have expy names from Twilight Sparkle, one has a parallel name, one has a copy name. One is a fan favorite, and one is to a far lesser extent. One has origins linked to Celestia, one has no origins linking to anyone or anything prior to her introduction. The latter has a defensive side of the fandom, the former doesnt have one anymore because she doesn’t need one.
 
Everyone is going to have and state their personal and completely subjective preference, but at the end of the day, it’s a recipe for disaster and everyone knows it. People who dislike Starlight are never going to stop disliking Starlight until she is better written in their eyes. That is the bottom line and nothing beyond that resolution will ever, EVER change that.
 
If we accept those facts, both sides can at least try to not start more fires.

I like both Sunset Shimmer and Starlight Glimmer and I really don’t like the ShimGlim Discourse. Screw these fans who keep fighting over who’s the best Twilight Sparkle student! Both of them are amazing!!!
