I use brony in a nongender/non age definition.
 
However, there is a difference in a fan of MLP:fim and a brony.. I am about to begin work on something to show exactly how.

Some say brony is gender-neutral, some don’t. Some involve age in it, some don’t. The only thing that remains constant in every definition is “likes my little pony”, and almost all of them extend that to “likes my little pony friendship is magic”.

I never saw Pony as an age thing but more as something gender-related. Before FiM, I kinda assumed guys in general (I admit, I was included in that way of thinking because I assumed there wasn’t any real conflict) were turned by off it, while girls and women like it the way boys and men like Transformers.
 
Also, I couldn’t care less about the creepier aspects of fandoms. I’m far from “normal” as it is.

Brony is just a shorthand way of saying, ‘Older fan of Friendship is Magic’. People who dislike the show for whatever reason have attempted to give it unnecessary extra meaning, and the exploits of some of the creepier fringe elements haven’t helped in that regard, but the fact remains that its just a simple way of saying FiM fan.

Brony is just awkward to me. I know it’s meant to be gender-neutral, but it isn’t. Like it’s incredible that so many guys can like a show for girls. The inverse is rarely ever talked about.

I only even use labels as a means to sum things up, I say I’m kind of a brony in order to mean I am a fan of FiM and enjoy interacting with people that also like it, but that is all I use it for, I don’t really think of my elf as o a brony but just a fan.

I just don’t get labels. Am I metalhead just because my favorite music genre is metal?
 
(I do know a lot about heavy metal subculture and trivia, but that’s beside the point.)
 
By the same token, am I a brony/pegasister because I like the show like any other?
