Colored artifacts need to have very special circumstances. I did briefly consider it, but this didn’t quite feel on par with etherium-infused life, Phyrexian horrors, or Kaladeshi gearhulks.
No arguments there, and I’m really not trying to be critical, I just like getting into your mind a little:
Why not both?
I did go back and forth a bit there, whether this was too blue to make into an artifact. That is a wrought-iron gate, after all. In the end, I decided that the effect was a bit too blue for me to make this colorless with a clean conscience.

Question, though: Was there any debate in your mind to make this an artifact creature, and if so, how did that play out?

That seems more approiate fir Hollow Shades than Sire’s Hollow. Especially what with the Well of Shade resuding there as shiwn in the Season 7 finale.
