Her deadpan laugh is amusing in every language. It’s apparently getting popular online.
Until this image, I never noticed she’s kinda like Maud frankly. Though, Fenneko is a bit more friendly & chatty.
I don’t think she sounds nearly meek enough, myself. And I prefer Fenneko’s Japanese laugh. But honestly, it’s still not bad, even if it’s no Cowboy Bebop dub.
Edited
True, it’s all a matter of personal preference I guess.
I’m not a huge anime fan either, I only watch them whenever I had the time.
And I agree with Retsuko, her voice sounds cute in the dub.
I don’t understand most Japanese jokes honestly, so I can kinda understand them changing slang terms, jokes, and such that get lost in translation, or don’t make sense to english speakers.
To be honest, alot of the original Japanese voices in anime sound just as weird as the American dub ones to me, so I honestly don’t mind dubs, and I only watch the original Japanese ones out of curiosity, or in the case of the later episodes of the F-Zero anime have no choice.
Though, in honesty, I’m not a major anime nerd, which is probably why I don’t mind.
I admit some localization editing choices are off, like say editing out Misty slapping Ash, (they show slapping in other American cartoons) even when a scene makes it obvious she smacked him, or editing out english text in “Sonic X” completely, or editing out game BGM in video game based shows, replacing it with their own music. So I can understand some annoyance with dubs.
Some english changes I do actually prefer. Retsuko sounds more like a cutesy animal cartoon character in the original Japanese version, but I prefer her adorable “girl next door” voice in the english version.
Both also clash well with her hilarious “Metal Karaoke” voice change mode.
I’ll be honest, I’m not a big fan of dubs (the only dubs I’ve watched are the Pokemon series) because it’s either if it has a Japanesey type joke, it doesn’t land with English and/or sometimes maybe the voice dubs sounds
awfulnot great. But I’ll admit they did a good job of the Eng dub of Retsuko.
“5 days, that’s how long I couldn’t poop.” :P
She even makes the outlandish lines sound cute & funny.
Especially Retsuko. Erica Mendez did her justice, especially when she woke up in the morning XD
“Work can bite me…”
Yeah, anime-fans usually hate english dubs, but I think they did a good job with this one, and the voices really suit the characters.
@Beau Skunky
It really is good. I prefer the English dub of the show, myself XD
I think I’m starting to love that series too. I need to watch the rest.
