Ah, I see you are a man of culture as well. But do you know…
Verse 2:
There’s another mother in that far off town
And her eyes are full of joyous tears
For she got a letter from her soldier boy
That has made her forget all her fears
Here’s the message he sent that made her content:
“I went through the battle without harm”
“But just whisper a prayer for the brave girls who wear”
“A little cross of red upon their arm”
Chorus
The Girl Who Wears a Red Cross on her Sleeve
Verse 1:
There’a a grey-haired mother in a far off town,
And her thoughts are on the field of war,
She is thinking of the million broken hearts,
There will be when the battle is o’er,
She says “I would be glad,
If I had a lad,
To fight for his country like a man,
And tho’ I had no boy,
It just filled me with joy,
To give my darling girl when war began.”
Chorus:
There’s a girl at the front among the soldiers,
She is one of a thousand girls or more,
Who works with the heart of an angel,
“Mid the sound of the canon’s roar,
She is caring with love so sweet and tender,
For the Sons of the mothers who grieve,
And many are the hearts that are grateful tonight,
To the girl who wears a red cross on her sleeve.
Edited
She is one of a thousand mares or more
Who works with the heart of an angel
Midst the sound of the cannon’s roar
She is caring with love so sweet and tender
For the sons of the mothers who grieve
And many are the hearts that are grateful tonight
To the mare who wears a red cross on her sleeve

I’ve been there, would not recommend doing it
If going over the top and getting riddled with bullets is what it takes to spend time with my one true love, then it’s worth it.
I don’t think you’d want to be in a trench during the great war =P
