This will infuriate me to no end if they try to pull a mother/child BS card with twilight and Spike.
 
It’s bad enough that they are disregarding Spike’s actions in the previous two episodes.
 

 

 
They don’t need to mess up something from season 1 as well.
 

 
Or give any justification for THIS to have happened, which makes Twilight’s parents AND Celestia total incompetent morons by proxy.

Because it makes sense and is fair for a presumably prepubescent girl who’s also a really dedicated student at an esteemed school to raise a child, when there are multiple reasonable alternatives, like having two living parents for starters.
 
The sibling dynamic just makes more sense, and I’ll be rather disappointed if they go for the “mother/child” dynamic.

Also, in the animatic, Twilight tells Spike to practice a flip. Spike can fly well, but he hasn’t practiced tricks.
 
Immediately after, he does well flying until he takes his eyes off the sky to look at Twilight.
