I draw a lot of ponies completely covered, I never had an issue with “acceptance” of them. I already explained how and why you are having so many issues with down votes, granted the subject material is sort of frowned upon, but at the same time it is the overall quality or lack of that causes people to give it a more negative response.
 
We had this conversation I believe once before.

“This is to test…” The derpibooru crowd is pretty easygoing. Certainly when compared to other groups on other topics. (Sports, politics, feminism against humanity, etc) But this? This is one of your better drawings, and is just around the low end of the acceptable ponies line. (you’ve done a lot worse.) It ain’t beautiful and it isn’t going to celebrated. And in topic it’s sorta bland. It’s not mud that drives the people away, it’s their disinterest towards what you produce. When your best is lukewarm you should learn to draw better pictures.
