Probably because amulets are easier to wear and much better to carry around.
You ever try to carry a conch shell everywhere you go? Those things have weight to them. Sooner or later all but the most fanatic will either throw the shell away or ‘conveniently’ forget the shell at home. Though it might be a good start to a bodysculpting program. XD
