Ehh, it really depends on the publisher. Some publishers monetize their AAA games like their mobile games. The end goal of these microtransactions might be funding other games, but it’s hard to say without direct evidence. It seems more like MTXs go to make the company more money, which makes shareholders happy and the people at the top richer. It doesn’t really go to anything useful except for stable income.
Gameloft as far as I know doesn’t make AAA games. They just make these cash cow mobile games that are cheap to make but bring in tons of money. It’s great for investors and businessmen. It’s not great if you’re fiscally-irresponsible.
companies don’t even want to make AAA games for their best franchises anymore. heck, hasbro screwed over highmoon financially when they delivered fall of cybertron, one of the best games EVER, let alone the best TF game ever.
>and that’s why we can’t have nice things
Here’s another perspective. In theory, the profits from FTP games can be used to fund the AAA games that everyone wants.
Even with the Gameloft MLP game, the profit from the people that do spend the money might be one of the things that kept the show alive for so long (Hasbro is sure to get a cut of the profit).

You know the purpose of this game is to waste your time and keep you hooked while putting up strategically-placed paywalls. If you took away the artificial time limits and paywalls, the game wouldn’t be much of a game.
Games like this are why mobile gaming is hated among hardcore gamers. Corporate executives and shareholders love them, though.
Of course, the question is, economically, how long this pumpkin will have to exist to produce enough gems to essentially “break even” in how much 79.90 could have bought in gems outright.

Yeah, but how long would it take someone to do that with the current state of the game?
There’s lots of users here that have finished all the quests (including the timed ones) without spending a single cent.
“Don’t you have a phone!?”
I know. I’m sure Diablo 4 will be a thing. Just better hope it doesn’t come with mobile-style monetization.
Its why we got diablo immortal instead of diablo 4.

That amount would be roughly $19 in American dollars.
If you managed to get all the gem producing shops, it does help in the long run. It won’t make you rich but it will help.
Yeah, no surprise there, you’d be better off doing video ads. Kinda just did that comment to meme xD

@Deltathedragon
Probably like a gem a day or week while stuff in the game costs hundreds of gems.
