She may be murdered, although the Purge’s primary function is to kill homeless people and other such urban poor, and while she’s lower class she isn’t homeless. Random acts of brutal violence aren’t exactly human nature, most people want to kill as a spur of the moment thing, while sociopaths would kill for personal gain. In the universe of the Purge, the government spends money making sure the “Right people” get purged, even hiring people to kill homeless individuals, so the violence isn’t as random, widespread, spontaneous or wanton as the government would have their people believe.
