My headcanon is that this is Bonniecorn’s mortal disguise. She would visit the houses of mortal ponies to see if they would be kind enough to welcome a poor, humble guest such as her. And if they do, she would reward them for their hospitality.
 
Kinda has that Baucis and Philemon feel to it.

yeah, i’m kinda with you, but i see her as an older alicorn, like an alicorn version of this.

I made Bonnie a traditional pony in these colours because this is what she originally intended the toys to look like: normal ponies with natural colours. I know that some countries had more naturally-coloured G1 toys and that the G4 show has had naturally-coloured ponies as well, so she doesn’t look out of place even with this neutral palette. Also, the colour of her coat matches the outfit she was wearing in the most recent reference I had of her.
 
Plus, I think it’s kind of disrespectful how everybody draws her as this tall yellow-blonde winged unicorn who’s super-skinny and shows no age whatsoever. Bonnie is at least in her sixties and doesn’t look anything like that. Imagine if you were drawing her as a person instead of a pony and did the same sorts of things to her… basically, you wouldn’t be drawing her at all.

If it makes you feel better, click on her tag. You’ll see that most artists have drawn her as an alicorn.

Her being a My Pretty Pony makes more sense.

It’s because G4 alicorns are basically gods that helped create and rule the world. Because of this, pretty much the only two people who can have an alicorn OC and not get crap for it are Faust and Zacherle.

Why’d she be an alicorn?
 
Proper alicorns don’t even exist in G1. The original ponies were all Earth ponies too.
