@I’m here just for the filters  
It is actual leather.  
It has to be, for most faux leathers (not sure if there are exceptions) cannot be pyrographed but would react like plastic materials and melt rather than scorch when approached with the smoldering tool. The price for actual leather is also a reason why I am not likely to do many pyrographies on leather. It is just too expensive for me.
