It just happens at some point between the movie and the building of the school.

I wouldn’t be surpised if this took place one day before School Daze.

So this is pre season 8 or some where in between  
those days within that season before spike got his  
wings that means this event,timeline took place long  
time ago.

There is no reason why it shouldn’t take place before S8 anyway. This special takes places between the movie and S8; it’s as simple as that. Nothing in the special itself contradicts that notion.

That sounds like the most plausible reason to me.

It could be worse honestly. At least Sunset didn’t go meet Twilight at her old tree library.

Obviously this happened when the school was closed for spring brake, and thus was put into storage, and Spike just so happened to drop his wings off at the cleaners. Duh!

The answer to this strange mystery is clearly as follows:

Considering that School Daze pt.1’s cold open has the Mane 7 regaling Starlight with small snippets of their adventures outside Equestria as they note the new locales displayed on the map, which would have us believe that Starlight left Canterlot after the festival but before Twilight and the others as she’s telling them about the Cutie map expanding, before Twilight’s declaration of building a school, and the facts of  
A. Twilight telling Sunset and co. of the events of the movie.  
B. the lack of schools presence.  
You are technically correct, it takes place after the cold open, but before the episode proper starts, it’s a misadventure that happened in the who knows how long leading up to the school being built.  
That would put it During the Season 8 time frame, not pre-season 8.

So after the movie and before Season 8.
