Starlight already has dirt on Luna and will use it as blackmail if she even thinks of telling anypony. The evil acts that Nightmare Moon did go far beyond what Celestia knows. ;)

However, there is one pony who can learn her secrets… Princess Luna.  
So either Starlight needs to learn how to keep that secret shut tight from the dream gazer or come up with a plot to assassinate the Moon Princess.

The hilarious part is that she’s going to turn into a princess on the very last episode of the show. The producers have huge boners for Starlight and so you know they’ll try their best to ruin the fucking last episode.

The mane 6 did resist her brainwashing, but wasn’t tortured (other than being enclosed and being brainwashed) and definitely not killed). She doesn’t come across as someone who would murder.

If starlight found herself unable to control one of her cultists, to the point that they were consistently trying to escape or stir up trouble, she’d probably have just erased their memories of the time they spent in her village and drop the poor malcontent close to another village to be picked up.
 
That way she could hide her plans and her village without resorting to murder.
