Exactly.
Yeah. It’s not a bad first attempt, but with voice work, you have to exaggerate emotions behind the lines , because some of that gets lost in the translation to animation (in contrast to live action). I’m sure she was trying, but just hadn’t had the training to do it well.
The CMC VAs aren’t kids anymore, and when they started they were older than Alice and had already worked in other shows.
Bo she didn’t. Even at the end, she sounded too restrained.
Seriously? That’s disappointing to hear regarding her. Hopefully taking part in this episode would have reignited her interest.
@Ihhh
She sounded a bit off during her first lines but eventually she started to pick up.
I guess I’ll have to watch the episode again. Cuz hey, maybe you’re right.
@TheThunderPony
The problem is her line delivery. Plenty of kids have been able to give good performances. For example, the CMCs VAs. The problem with Alice is that her performance is wooden.

@Background Pony #454C
I think I know what the problem is here. People are so used to hearing adults doing kid voices,
that when a real kid VA comes along, it might sound weird, or straight up bad to them.
Even Cathy Wesluck for example, as good as she is, could possibly be trumped by a real young boy.
There is a difference in tone, pronunciation, and inflection in a kid, versus an adult.
And that really does make all the difference when voicing young characters.

Not what I heard. She sounded real.
Too often a VA almost sounds too polished to me, especially when it’s an adult doing a kid’s voice.
See Catbug in webisodes of Bravest Warriors for a great example of a good kid VA.

No she didn’t. She sounded like she was reading a script.
The character actually sounded genuine. She didn’t “overdo” it, and she sounded genuinely upset/sad when the character talked about Quibble/her biological dad.
Plus, she was just 8 when she recorded this.
Uh, no. You said she was a teen, but she’s just 10. And you also assumed teens would be disgusted at the show they used to watch. Those are two wild assumptions, I doubt she actually would be this disgusted.
That’s what training is for. It’s still no excuse for an inexperienced actress too get cast in the role. They should’ve cast a better actress.

I was never insinuating it as being an excuse. She may have potential though.
After all, like vortex said, she just needs practice.

But in order to get said experience, you got to act. An actor, artist, or writer won’t get good overnight. The first thing they make obviously won’t be good but with practice and time, they can hone their craft.
Not an excuse. If she can’t act, she shouldn’t.
@PurpleSmart2
If she has no acting experience, then she shouldn’t act, at least not without some training, which she clearly didn’t have.
@Ihhh
Well yes, for being a kid with no experience. In general however, of course it wasn’t all that.
I did like the sound of her voice though.
Edited
Eh, she did sound rather wooden, but what else would you expect from a ten-year-old with no previous acting experience?
Don’t be so mean!
No she didn’t.
Indeed! Alice did a wonderful job voicing her too.

Wallflower Blush from Equestria Girls is another example.

Yeah. Ages 10 to 12 is pre-teen I think.
