Unfortunately so can oils, it will depend on the pigment. Basically anything with chemicals in it are not good for you, that being said avoid anything with lead or mercury in it and you’ll be ok for a short while, but long term exposure ie months and onward and you’ll have snags.

Oil and latex paints are safe. They may have fumes that can temporarily irritate your eyes, but are harmless on contact. Acrylic paints can contain heavy metals.

I thought it was the oil paints that were dangerous and the acrylics were the safe ones.

Depends on what kind of paint it is. Only acrylic based paints are really dangerous.
