Except the roc she turned into was also quite a bit smaller than the real one from the show. On the other hand the cragadile was pretty close to the size of the one that appeared in the show. Taken together I think that means the sizes were intentional and that changelings simply can’t get that big when transforming.

It’s more likely that the animators just fudged the size. Animators do that all the time.

Allegedly, the more love a changeling has when they metamorphose into their final stage, the more powerful and elaborate they will become.
 
If we follow this chain of thought, Chrysalis may become this glowing goddess of light.

Perhaps, assuming he can control giving back power beyond “release it and it returns to whoever originally had it.”

I wonder… suppose that Chrysalis has an upper bound for the size and power of the things she can transform into, and that that limit can be affected by how much magic or power or whatever she happens to have stored away. Now, we know that Tirek’s magic siphoning can apparently work both ways – he can drain away magic and he can send it back out into someone else; he just rarely has any interest in giving away power that he could keep.
 
So suppose than in a future episode, likely the finale, the terrible trio’s learned ability to cooperate leads to something like, say, Tirek sucking the magic out of a large number of random ponies and passing it to Chrysalis to give her the power boosts necessary to take on extremely powerful forms – an ursa major, say – to break through obstacles or overcome resistance to their plans…

My theory has long been that there is a certain size limit to what a changeling can change into.

That’s a pretty tiny Ursa Minor.
