You should never save pixel art in JPEG though, since it’s a destructive format. Even at 100% quality, JPEG adds artefacts. PNG or GIF are way better.

For demonstration’s sake, http://yanrishatum.ru/pj/ counts this JPEG version at more than 4000 different colours. You can mouseover the list to see how much artefacts the format has added to edges.
