Not even joking: If Rainbow had not interrupted them, maybe Rarity would have had sex with this guy - which cannot happen in the show and they cannot show it obviously. I’m only talking about character motivations here
And people complaining about him are just showing how sensitive they are that a male character is being infatuated by one of the female leads.
Him having trouble saying her name was name was an obvious red hairing to that accent not being his own.
